Simia Sapiens from Aarau, Switzerland fuse heavy stoner rock with screaming guitar solos,
punk-driven rhythms, sudden tempo changes and long instrumental passages.
Above it all: fierce, politically charged vocals - radically left, unapologetically angry.
The story began in 2016 as a solo project by Marcel Gerber, who wrote, played, and produced the debut album
Wake Up Or Die entirely on his own. A year later, Simia Sapiens evolved into a full live band - quickly earning a reputation as an unrelenting force on stage. By the end of 2019, they had already played more than 100 shows.
Their second album, Embrace Finality (2018), cemented their status as a hard-to-define yet powerful presence in the Swiss underground. In 2021, after two tours through Central and Eastern Europe and countless shows, things suddenly went quiet. Line-up changes, creative recalibration, and the search for the next big chapter defined the years that followed.
After a period of transition and shifting roles, the current lineup came together in 2022: Marcel Gerber (vocals & guitar), Bob MacLaren (moving from drums to bass), Matthew Baur (from bass to guitar), and new drummer Elias Knoblauch.
This constellation marks a turning point - Together, they began working on their most ambitious release yet.
Throughout 2024 and 2025, the band focused heavily on studio work. The result of this phase will be released in
late 2025 - an album that retains everything Simia Sapiens has always stood for, while pushing their sound further into heavier, more technical, and progressive territory.
Simia Sapiens remain loud, defiant, and unpredictable.
